After breakfast, we now start hiking along the Assif n’Ait Ouazaden valley, passing walnut groves, to Tizi n’taghrhourte (1995m above sea level) and then through the rare almost flat section to the spring of Assaka After about 2.5 hours of travel The walk is relatively easy and we’ll stop for a picnic in stunning silence. Our afternoon hike will take us down the edge of the forest until we reach the Berber village of D’knt (1870m) or Agouns n Assoul, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a campsite.

Day 3: D’knt – Tizi n’tagdalte – Tizi oussem

We set out in the morning on a 3-hour hike through walnut groves, corn and barley fields, to meet many sheep and shepherds – women and children stooping to carry 20kg of sticks and dried herbs. We walked through the Tizi n’tagdalte, descending among the juniper trees until we came to a small spring in the woods, where we stopped for a picnic. Refreshed, we walked about 3 hours uphill, winding trails to a small river at the beginning of the Assif n’Ait Ouaszden valley. From here we enter the village of Tizi oussem (1850m above sea level) and then the summer village of Tamsoult at our camp.

After breakfast, we now head east along the winding mule trail for 3550 meters and then southeast for another 3 hours to Toubkal Hut, which marks the spring snow line at 3207 meters above sea level, where we will be at Dinner at a nearby mountain hut in Bivouac.

Day 5: Toubkal Sanctuary – Summit – Sidi Chamharouch – Imlil – Marrakech

After a 3 hour steep climb, had a very early breakfast and left around 6am to reach the highest peak in the Maghreb (4167m). The panorama seen from here is simply stunning. When you’re ready, we’ll join your guide for an easy 2-3 hour downhill ride on Ikkhibi Sud or South Cirque back to the mountain hut for a picnic lunch. After lunch we will now head north up the steep zigzag trail on the higher slopes of the Assif n’Isouhouanem n’Ouagounss valley to the Sidi Chamharouch shrine. Located next to the falls, there is a pilgrimage “marabout” shrine, probably a remnant of a pre-Islamic culture, but non-Muslims are off limits. Another 2 hours of downhill walking takes you to the village of Imlil, where most of the trek starts, before taking a taxi back to MarrakecH
