Ait Ben Haddou stands as the most exquisitely preserved Kasbah in Morocco, resembling a cluster of small Kasbahs. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this 14th-century fortified hilltop village once graced the ancient caravan route linking Marrakech and the Sahara. Its cinematic allure has featured in numerous films, giving rise to a thriving village around this captivating structure.
Embarking on our day trip to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbahs at 09:00 from Marrakech, we traverse the High Atlas via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, winding through the highest peaks of North Africa. En route, we encounter picturesque traditional Berber villages nestled amid the mountainous landscape. Arriving at the fortified Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a designated world heritage site, we explore its enchanting Kasbahs. The site’s ambiance is particularly captivating during sunrise and sunset. Visitors can ascend to the ruins of the fortified granary, offering breathtaking panoramic views, and take a leisurely stroll along the river and through the village.
Continuing our journey, we reach Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert and a hub for Sahara desert tourism in the south. Here, we visit the Taourirt Kasbah, an impressive structure providing insight into ancient Kasbah life and Moroccan architecture. Entrance to the Kasbah is 2 euros or 20 dirhams per person. In the afternoon, we make our way back to Marrakech, concluding a day filled with cultural exploration and scenic beauty.
